1 Twistin’ Was Done

Behind the rodeo grounds, at the county fair I saw that old hand leaning against the top rail.
As the pickup men did their job I asked him how he liked the show
And did it remind him of a long time ago.

He said  “I’ve never been a rodeo man
I just saddled my horse, and I rode for the brand
The broncs I rode, I rode ‘em through
Cause when the twisting was done, we had a job to do”

He told me, “I’ve be to Cheyenne, Daddy of Em All
From where I sat in the stands I could feel the call
But running after glory down the rodeo road never could take me away
From the smell of the sage on the summer range, at the first light of day”.

He said, “I don’t mind all this noise, every once in a while.
And when one of those boys makes a real fine ride
It sure does make me smile.”

2 Hopin’ the Wind Dies Down

I was too young when daddy passed on, still I held onto his dream
I learned from mistakes, did what it takes to keep this ranch free and clear
It takes more than an eight second ride
To keep the pride of this family alive

Working on the pens today, hardly hold horses anymore Heifers are in with the hay, just like ten times before
I wonder what my daddy would say
If he were still ranching today

There’s folks back in Washington
And at the coffee cup in town
They’ve got all the answers
To the questions most profound
And I’m out feeding cattle
Hoping the wind dies down

I spend more time pushing paper than I ever did punching cows
With leases and taxes and neighbors and livin with what I’m allowed
I wonder what my daddy would say
If he were still ranching today…to those

3 A Place of our Own

It’s early in the morning, But I’m riding kind of slow
I caught myself dreaming, really let myself go
I dreamed we stopped wandering, let our roots start to grow
I dreamed we finally got there, a little place of our own.
Chorus A little place of our own, a little way out of town Maybe a little run down, but I still like the sound
Of our baldies running in the hills, and a house we can call home
Oh Lord I want to go there, a little place of our own.

When I saddle my horse, and my son rides beside me
I know that we’re blessed, with this life that we lead
But is this a family, or just a band of gypsies?
Like the son of man, no place to call home.

The markets and the taxes and the weather might get the best of us.
Work our fingers to the bone and give it all back to the bank.
But if we could take a chance on a couple hundred cows
And our own shady tree in the yard
Babe I want to go there, a little place of our own.

I buried my old dog, he was a true companion
Out behind the barn, beneath a box elder tree
And then it really hit me, that old aching feeling
Are we ever going to come to rest, on a place of own.

4 Gold in My Pocket

I don’t know, yeah but I’ve been told,
Every moment is filled with gold
Gold in my pocket and gold in my shoes
Every moment I spend here with you

I was younger, yeah and now I’m older
I’ve spent treasure beyond measure
Some I’ve wasted and still I have found
My pockets feel heavy when you’re around

Sometimes I feel fine on the inside, but I forget to let it show, Lord
I need someone like you to show me how to smile
Like an old goldmine, let the moment shine

I don’t know, yeah but I’ve been told,
Every moment is filled with gold
Gold in my pocket and gold in my shoes
Every moment I spend here with you

5 Leftover Storm

Just a leftover storm up on the mountain
Winter is over summer is near
But a leftover storm up on the mountain
Comes a squallin’ and blowin’
All the flowers are frozen, one more snow this year

Just when you thought, your luck surely changed
The morning came dawning so clear
In the middle of winter, it seemed it’d never be over
Finally the end it is here
But life has a way, it’s own set of rules
And we play with the hand we are dealt
When they throw you a wild one, you can cuss it or ride on
But that snow will melt all by itself

6 Wild Heart

I won’t put my trust, in this horse and saddle
Cause a horse will stumble on the narrow trail
But I’ll hand the reins to my loving savior
His grace and mercy will never fail

In a wild heart trust grows slowly
But a gentle touch will find a way
When you are ready for a bigger circle
Hold to his word, you will not stray

Some drift with the wind and trust in dreams
Or bet their life on plans of their own
But my hope comes from a love eternal
The hand that rolled away the stone

When the clouds grow dark and thunder crashes
And my courage fails in the raging storm
His face it shines down upon me
Into his peace I have been born

7 Gypsy Rover
Traditional

A gypsy rover came over the hill
Down through the valley so shady
He whistled and he sang till the green woods rang
And he won the heart of the lady

Ah de doo Ah de do di day
Ah de do Ah de day
He whistled and he sang til the green woods rang
And he won the heart of the lady

She left her father at castle gate
She left her own fine lover
She left her servant and estate
To follow the gypsy rover

Her father he saddled up his fastest steed
To roam the valleys all over
He sought his daughter at great speed
And the whistling gypsy rover

At last he came to a mansion fine
Down by the river Klathy
And there was music and there was wine
For the gypsy and his lady
He is no gypsy my father, she said
But lord of these lands all over
And I will stay til my dying day
With the whistling gypsy rover

8 Come Along With Me

I’m anticipating a long and winding way
And it’ll be different there every single day
With Purple trees and Orange skies
All arranged to please the eyes
Don’t you know how happy I will be

I don’t know how I’ll get there
I don’t even know where it will be
But I’m glad that’s where I’m going
Won’t you come along with me

I’ve got a feeling that you belong with me
And where I’m going that’s where you should be
We’ll go dancing through chocolate seas
Before sailing before the breeze
Don’t you know how happy we will be

I don’t know how we’ll get there
I don’t even know where it will be
But I’m glad that’s where we’re going
Won’t you come along with me

9 Buckaroo Pooh

Christopher Robin’s wearing cowboy boots
Pooh’s got his rope down he’s buildin’ a loop
In a tale well told about a day lived right
With his faithful companions and his eyes full of light

Me and Pooh –Dad
Been out ridin’ cross the canyon
Me and Pooh brought in the last of the strays
Roped us a wild one, got him doctored
Then we came on home so we’d have time to play

You can tell your stories about the days gone by
Broncs and big circles and endless skies
And never hear a tale told quite as true
As of Christopher Robin and the Buckaroo Pooh

Christopher Robin’s wearing cowboy boots
Pooh’s got his rope down he’s buildin’ a loop

10 Prairie Lullaby
Stephanie Davis

When shadows creep across the hills and purple streaks the sky
And cattle bunch up closer for the night
That’s when you’ll hear the whippoorwill start singin’ sweet and high
That’s when you hear the prairie lullaby

The breeze is playin’, the branch is swayin’, somewhere a coyote cries
Ah dee odoloh oh ti     It’s a prairie lullaby

When later on the sun in gone, the campfire fights the dark
And a million stars are twinkling in the sky
That’s when you’ll see a cowboy reaching for his old mouth harp
That’s when you hear the prairie lullaby

11 There is a Reason
Ron Block

I’ve seen hard times and I’ve been told
It isn’t any wonder that I fall
Why do we suffer, crossing off the years
There must be a reason for it all.

I’ve trusted in You, Jesus to save me from my sin
Heaven is the place I call my home
But I keep on getting caught up in this world we’re living in
And your voice it sometimes fades before I know

Hurtin’ brings my heart to you crying with my need.
Depending on your love to carry me
The love that shed His blood for all the world to see
This must be the reason for it all

Hurtin’ brings my heart to you, a fortress in the storm
When what I wrap my heart around is gone
I give my heart so easily to the ruler of this world
When the one who loves me most will give me all

In all the things that cause me pain You give me eyes to see
I do believe but help my unbelief
I’ve seen hard times and I’ve been told
There is a reason for it all

12 Wheels That Turn

We’re all takin a roll, down an ancient road
Sometimes too wide, sometimes so narrow, sometimes too cold
We keep pushin on, we keep hurryin on down
So often worried, so often so sad, we’re not makin ground.

We set our sights there on that far mountain top
And when we get there, we’ll find we still can’t stop
So we keep rollin along, can’t help but learn,
What we’re goin through, must have something to do with the wheels that turn

Well I’ve asked you for your love, I thought to give you mine
Somewhere in the darkness to hold it up and to make it shine
And as I think of you now, my thoughts are easy to find
Well, I’ve been troubled and I’ve been so confused, but with you I don’t mind

Don’t want to change you, I just hope we can grow
If we grow on together, then we will know
Cause we keep rollin along, can’t help but learn
That what we’re goin through, must have something to do with the wheels that turn

13 Colorado
Chuck Pyle

I came as a young girl, a refugee from the plains
Looking for higher ground, where the sun shines through the rain
Where the mountain folks and the old cowpokes have found a peace of mind
I guess loving mother nature makes you naturally kind

Colorado, everywhere I go
I’m in your shadow and you’re calling to me
Colorado, where the sun melts the snow
And makes the rivers flow to the sea

Say good-bye to Denver, out across the divide
The last day of September, such a fine day for a ride
It’s a Buena Vista morning, a Durango afternoon
‘Round a Mesa Verde campfire, we’ll be humming this tune

There’s a warm winter sun in the window of your car
Now do you know where you are?

14 Twist Me a Rope

I’m gonna twist me a rope from good horses I’ve known
Some are still here, others passed on
Make it of mane hair, sorrel and grey
Deep brown and black, chestnut and bay
Just a little of each, a mecate so fine
Each strand a memory, each color a sign
I’ll ride across the prairie, I’ll ride across time
With my heart in my hands and a prayer on my mind
Heart in my hands and a prayer on my mind

I’m gonna buy me a ranch down in old Mexico
With an adobe hacienda and an old stone corral
One thousand sections and just one boundary fence
I’ll drift them up the Sierra Madre and back down again
I’ll call all my compadres from ranges far and wide
And we’ll live us some memories as together we ride
Swing our ropes in the morning, sing by firelight
Of the trails and the trials and the glories of life
All the trails and the trials and glories of life
